Visit to Our Arts and Crafts Workshops by Authorities from Muş Type E Closed Penal Institution

Ferhat Tuncay, the Director of Muş Type E Closed Penal Institution, along with Specialist Teacher Suzan Kıran, Enforcement and Protection Officer Yurtsev Köse, and Enforcement and Protection Officer Özkan Orun, visited the workshops of the Handicrafts Department of the Vocational School of Technical Sciences (VSTS) of our university in order to get opinions on the rehabilitation and education of prisoners in penal institutions.

During the visit, (VSTS)  Director Assoc. Prof. Dr. Fatih Şevgin, Arts and Crafts Department Chair Instructor Mikail Sevindik, department faculty members Instructor Abdulkadir Öznülüer, Instructor Emre Koç, and Arts and Crafts Workshop Supervisor Tuncay Şahin welcomed the guest team in the workshops and provided information about the ongoing projects. Discussions centered around courses that could be organized for the rehabilitation and reintegration of inmates into society, including potential projects under supervised release. The meeting explored how the expertise and resources of our university's Arts and Crafts Department could be integrated into the correctional facility.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Fatih Şevgin, the Director of TSVS, stated, "Education and rehabilitation in correctional institutions are crucial components of societal healing and the reintegration of inmates into society. Skill-building courses like arts and crafts can help inmates regain self-confidence and improve their job prospects. Additionally, through projects under supervised release, the integration of inmates into society can be further supported. With the support of our Rector, Prof. Dr. Mustafa Alican, we are ready to collaborate and provide assistance in such projects for correctional institutions."

The authorities of Muş Type E Closed Penal Institution expressed their satisfaction with the potential collaborations with the university officials, stating their openness to developing joint projects to contribute to the education and rehabilitation processes of inmates in correctional institutions."
