An International Battlefield Archaeology Workshop will be held at our university
The battlefield archaeology studies in Manzikert, which have been going on since 2020, inspired an international event. Six academicians working in different universities around the world will hold a workshop hosted by Muş Alparslan University.
The workshop, where detailed information and experiences about battlefield archaeology, which has become a highly demanded field, will be conveyed and it will make great contributions to researchers. Methodological approaches in war archaeology will be presented under the title Manzikert from 1071 to 2023.
In the workshop which will start with the opening speech of Rector of Muş Alparslan University Prof. Dr. Mustafa Alican on Tuesday, August 15, 2023, there will be speakers from many fields. These are; Prof. Dr. Andrew Peterson, who has conducted field studies in many countries of the Middle East and Africa and has specialized in Islamic Architecture and Ottoman urbanism, Prof. Dr. Reyhan Körpe, who has taken a leading role in the battlefield archaeology studies especially in Turkey with the Trojan city and the Granikos war, Dr. Christopher Lillington-Martin from Barcelona University, who has made an impact in the field with his studies on the Battle of Dara, Dr. Can Aksoy, who has studied weapons of war in Arab archaeology, Dr. Prof. Georgios Theotokis, who has focused on Byzantine war tactics and worked on the Battle of Manzikert, Prof. Dr. Adnan Çevik, who has been conducting field studies for three years to bring the archaeological findings of the Battle of Manzikert to the Turkish cultural world.
