The Malazgirt Project, supported by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and in which our university is a stakeholder, continues to make a significant impact internationally.
Heritage Daily, a prestigious publication in the fields of archaeology, anthropology, and paleoanthropology, introduced the project to its readers with a comprehensive article. Written by renowned author Mark Milligan, the article highlighted the important findings obtained during the project and the innovative research methods applied.
Led under the scientific supervision of Prof. Dr. Adnan Çevik, the Malazgirt Project aims to uncover traces of the Battle of Malazgirt, a significant turning point in Turkish history, through archaeological excavations conducted in the areas where the battle took place. As part of these efforts, many important metal artifacts, including gold and bronze coins, arrowheads, spears, and sword fragments, were unearthed. The article published in Heritage Daily thoroughly discusses the historical significance of these finds and their contributions to battlefield archaeology.
The report also included remarks from Project Coordinator Dr. A. Oğuzhan Karaçetin. Dr. Karaçetin noted that the new search techniques and methodologies developed within the project would provide great benefits in complex fields like battlefield archaeology. He also emphasized that the innovative approaches employed in the Malazgirt Project have led to much more productive results. Karaçetin mentioned that these experiences could serve as examples not only in Turkey but also for other battlefield projects around the world.
