“The 15th of July Coup Attempt with Its Roots and Background" Panel organized by our university was held.
Our Rector Prof. Dr. Fethi Ahmet Polat, Vice Rectors Prof. Dr. Yaşar Karadağ and Prof.Dr. Ulaş Çaydaş, our Secretary General Harun Demir and Agriculture Provincial Director Mehmet Aydın, as well as the department heads and staff of our university, representatives from public institutions and organizations, and students participated in the panel.
Prof. Dr. Bekir Koçlar (Yüzüncü Yıl University, Department of History), Prof. Dr. Sabit Duman (Muş Alparslan University, Department of History), and Assistant Professor Süleyman Aşık (İzmir Bakırçay University, Department of History) were among the speakers of the panel. The panel was moderated by the Social Sciences Vocational School Director Assoc. Prof. Mehmet Özalper and the opening speech was given by our Rector Prof. Dr. Fethi Ahmet Polat. In his speech, our Rector emphasized that the people of Muş filled the streets and squares of the city from the first moments and attended the “No to the Coup!” rallies, which were pioneered by our university. Our Rector finished his word by commemorating our martyrs who received God's mercy on the night of July 15th. One of the panelists Prof. Dr. Bekir Koçlar talked about the development of the coup tradition from the Ottoman period to the present and emphasized that this nation could no longer be suppressed by coups and that this was inscribed in the cultural codes of the nation. Speaking next, Assistant Professor Süleyman Aşık discussed the transition from military power to civilian power during the Turgut Özal period and stated that Turgut Özal's personal characteristics were also reflected in the period he led. Lastly, Prof. Dr. Sabit Duman talked about the developments regarding the process of July 15th and indicated that the coup attempt was eliminated thanks to the foresight of our nation. In his closing speech, Assoc. Prof. Mehmet Özalper concluded the panel by stating that our heroic nation added a new one on the night of July 15th to the numerous successes that existed in the history of Turkish nation.
