Silage Corn Harvest Begins in Muş

The harvest of silage corn, cultivated on an area of 36,000 hectares in Muş, has commenced. In this context, an event was organized at the Kıyık-Çatbaşı village in Muş center, attended by Muş Governor Avni Çakır, Muş Provincial Director of Agriculture and Forestry Mehmet Gün, Vice Rector of Muş Alparslan University and Dean of the Faculty of Applied Sciences Prof. Dr. Yaşar Karadağ, Bingöl Sütaş Project Coordinator Çetin Atala, government officials, and producers.

Speaking at the event, Prof. Dr. Karadağ stated: 'In animal feeding, the two essential components of roughage, which are necessary, are forage pastures and fodder crops cultivated in agricultural fields. More than 70% of the expenses incurred by a facility engaged in animal husbandry constitute feed costs. Particularly, the cultivation of biomass-rich plants is inevitable to fill the gap in high-quality roughage for animal feeding. In this context, silage corn, reaching a height of approximately three meters, is crucial in closing the gap in high-quality roughage for animal feeding.'

The program concluded with the harvest of silage corn cultivated in the Kıyık-Çatbaşı village in Muş center.
