Public-University Collaboration Protocol" Signed by Our University
A collaborative protocol has been signed between Muş Provincial Health Directorate, Muş Alparslan University, and Pamukkale University to conduct seismic assessments of buildings affiliated with the health directorate. The protocol, titled "Public-University Collaboration Protocol for Seismic Assessment of Buildings in Muş Province Health Directorate and Preparation of Strengthening Projects if Necessary," aims to ensure the earthquake safety of these structures.
The protocol was signed by Muş Provincial Health Director Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mehmet Kabak, Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Kenan Yıldırım for Muş Alparslan University, and Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Necip Atar for Pamukkale University. Muş Alparslan University will lead and coordinate the collaboration, with the involvement of Muş Provincial Health Directorate. The focus will be on conducting seismic performance assessments for Health Centers, State Hospitals, and additional service buildings in Muş City and Districts. After these assessments, the preparation of necessary reports and projects has been agreed upon, including reinforcement projects for buildings identified as requiring strengthening based on seismic vulnerability reports.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Abdulhakim Zeybek highlighted the engineering weaknesses in many structures in Muş, particularly on problematic soil layers, emphasizing the likelihood of destructive earthquakes. Zeybek stated the crucial importance of conducting seismic performance assessments for existing structures, revealing the inventory of buildings with low seismic safety, and taking necessary measures to minimize potential casualties and property losses in case of earthquakes. Additionally, Zeybek mentioned significant investments in our university's Central Research Laboratory, equipped with devices and tools not found in any other institution, enabling the execution of various national and international projects in our region.
