Our Rector touched upon the issues of Palestine and Gaza in his speeches. Emphasising the historical, cultural and religious dimensions of the borders between states, he stated that the artificial borders drawn today are far from natural. Questioning the construction of borders between Syria and Turkey and the meaning of these borders, he stated that natural borders are determined by culture, religion and history.
He also drew attention to the tradition of feasting between Turkey and Syria until the 1990s, and pointed to the historical heritage instead of the artificial borders drawn since the 1910s, and emphasised the importance of the borders that have been formed for a thousand years and rooted in the geography, which have become a necessary inheritance for us. In his speech, he also stated that the painful events caused by the state of Israel damage human dignity.
