MAUN witnessed the convergence of Islamic Geometric Decorations and Mathematics
Students in mathematics education presented an exhibition by blending Islamic geometric decorations with mathematics.
Faculty of Education hosted a unique exhibition at the intersection of mathematics and art. The exhibition titled "Islamic Geometric Decorations" prepared by students from the Department of Mathematics Education and coordinated by Associate Professor Dr. Yılmaz Mutlu, provided visitors with a unique experience in the integration of mathematics and art.
The exhibition attended by Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Kenan Yıldırım and Rector's Advisor Atike Yılmaz showcased how geometric decorations, one of the most striking examples of Islamic art, were harmonized with mathematical perspectives. The event served as a platform for mathematics education students to explore the geometric concepts and mathematical relationships behind these decorations and integrate this knowledge into artistic expression.
Associate Professor Dr. Yılmaz Mutlu highlighted the significance of the exhibition from both an educational and artistic perspective: "This exhibition allowed our students to enhance their mathematical thinking skills and creativity. It also emphasized the richness of Islamic art and the role of geometry in this art form."
The exhibition displayed dozens of different geometric decoration examples integrated with students' mathematics lessons. These works included mathematical analysis of Islamic geometric patterns and artistic interpretations of these analyses.
As a rare example where mathematics and art converge, the event garnered significant interest from both academic circles and the general public. The exhibition, particularly appealing to students and academics in mathematics, art history, architecture, and education fields, stood out as an opportunity not to be missed.
The Islamic Geometric Decorations Exhibition held at Muş Alparslan University's Faculty of Education successfully presented the harmony between mathematics and art to the participants.
