International Oncology Days Ended
The 2nd day program of the 9th International “Growing Plant” Oncology Days organized by the Young Savings Association hosted by our university. The program started with the opening speech ofWorld Health Organization Turkey Office Program Manager Prof. Dr. Toker Ergüder and it ended with four sessions and a tour of the Murat Bridge.
Ergüder stated that he had come to Muş many times for different reasons but he was very surprised that there is such a large congress and cultural center in Muş, and that they could easily hold their international programs here and thanked the Rector Prof. Dr. Fethi Ahmet Polat. Ergüder, a public health expert, mentioned that they are working on how people should be protected from cancer and how cancer can be prevented, and that 10,000 people die from cancer every year in the world. Emphasizing that approximately 50% of these diseases are preventable, he pointed out that smoking, which is the first cause that comes to mind when cancer is mentioned, accounts for 22% of these deaths and that cigarette use among women has increased. In his speech, Ergüder stated that smoking is the most well-known cause of lung cancer, but it is not known that obesity is an important factor in developing lung cancer as well. He stated that the World Health Organization has done a lot of work especially for cancer control and prevention of cancer and is trying to raise awareness on this issue. Stating that the 9th International oncology days are also an event organized within this framework, Ergüder thanked Muş Governorship Provincial Health Directorate, Muş Municipality, the Rector Prof. Dr. Fethi Ahmet Polat and non-governmental organizations. He congratulated Salih Yüce, the President of the Youth Savings Association, and everyone involved. Ergüder then chaired the first session on Breast Cancer.
In the following sessions, presentations were made on Gynecological Oncology, Non-Governmental Organizations Against Cancer and Corporate Social Responsibility Projects. In the last session on "My Story", cancer patients who managed to beat cancer by fighting cancer shared their experiences about the process.
The program ended with the Murat Bridge tour after the sessions.
