A Campus in touch with Nature: Muş Alparslan University
Continuing its development with the motto “a campus in touch with nature", our university maintains its planting and afforestation activities without pausing. Our university, which has one of the most extensive sheltered green areas of Muş, is getting more beautiful with nearly a thousand saplings donated by the Sohta Sinan Education and Service Foundation.
Founded in 1997 and contributing to the future of our country with its education and afforestation activities since its establishment, the foundation named after Sohta Sinan, one of the commanders of Fatih Sultan Mehmet, also donated nearly a thousand saplings and trees to our university within the scope of the afforestation efforts that it carries out all over Turkey.
As well as the number of our trees, the variety of our trees is increasing
Among the saplings donated by the foundation, there are fruit saplings such as apples, pears, sour cherries, cherries, apricots, peaches and plums, as well as different tree saplings such as Arizona cypress, gold rider plant, yellow pine and larch. As a result of the planting of newly arrived saplings, the diversity of trees in our university is also increasing. At the same time, it is aimed to increase and improve the existing flora as a result of the studies carried out in the field of shrubs and wild plants at our university.
Existing trees’ maintenance was also carried out
In the works planned in line with the importance given to afforestation, pre-winter maintenance of the existing trees was also carried out. In order to extinguish the negative effects of the drought in our city and to preserve the green identity of our university, improvement operations were conducted for our dried trees. In this regard, dry trees were removed and new saplings were planted in their place.
The event, which was organized with the support of Sohta Sinan Education and Service Foundation Representative Nihat Seyhan and his team, was attended by our Rector Prof. Dr. Fethi Ahmet Polat and his wife Nilüfer Polat, as well as Vice Rectors Prof. Dr. Yaşar Karadağ, Prof. Dr. Murad Aydın Şanda, Prof. Dr. Ulaş Çaydaş, Assistant Secretary General Lect. Ferit Uslu, Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences Prof. Dr. Hüseyin Kırmızıoğlu and Dean of the Faculty of Islamic Sciences Prof. Dr. Murat Serdar also attended. Nearly a thousand saplings and trees, aged between 5 and 10, were planted in different areas of our university. It was stated that the Sohta Sinan Foundation will donate nearly a thousand saplings and trees in the spring, and the afforestation works will continue. A plaque and a miniature of Sultan Alparslan were also given to the foundation representative, Nihat Seyhan, who was thanked for their support that added value to our university.
“MAUN will do its part to protect the green environment”
Expressing his thanks to the visitors on the occasion of the afforestation works, our Rector Prof. Dr. Fethi Ahmet Polat said: “I would like to thank Zeki Balcıoğlu, the founder of the Sohta Sinan Foundation and the businessman, and Nihat Seyhan, whose support we have personally taken regarding the saplings. Mr. Balcıoğlu is a Macedonian philanthropist, and Mr. Seyhan is a green lover from Sivas. One of the important working areas of the foundation is afforestation activity. Nihat Seyhan is an authorized person on this subject and he carries out these activities only in universities established in the Eastern and Southeastern Anatolia regions. In the spring, we will host them at our university again. In addition, within the next week, we will plant 900 saplings allocated to our university within the scope of the works followed by our General Manager of Forestry, Bekir Karacabey. As you know, we started a tree planting campaign on behalf of our four thousand students at our university for our burning forests this year. We presented the donations of our academic and administrative staff to our esteemed General Manager. In order to keep the green environment of our country alive, Muş Alparslan University will continue to do its part sincerely.”
