The 178th Anniversary of Agricultural Education Celebrated with Enthusiasm!
A celebration program was organized at our university in honor of the 178th anniversary of agricultural education. Dr. Şerafettin Çakal, Deputy General Director of Agricultural Research and Policies at the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, delivered a conference on "The Future of Agriculture and Agricultural Research and Policies General Directorate (TAGEM)" at the Prof. Dr. Sabahattin Zaim Conference Hall.
The program, which began with a musical performance featuring agricultural themes by Adem Fırat, a teacher from Şehit Yücel Kurtoğlu Fine Arts High School, included speeches by Enes Alçın, Student Representative of the Faculty of Applied Sciences, Prof. Dr. Yaşar Karadağ, Vice Rector and Dean of the Faculty of Applied Sciences, Mehmet Gün, Provincial Director of Agriculture and Forestry, and Prof. Dr. Mustafa Alican, our Rector.
Prof. Dr. Yaşar Karadağ provided detailed information about the faculty's projects and studies, emphasizing the importance of educational programs for farmers and the pioneering nature of the faculty's scientific research. Mehmet Gün, the Provincial Director of Agriculture and Forestry, highlighted the significance of the faculty's scientific studies in plant and animal production for the province.
Rector Prof. Dr. Mustafa Alican emphasized the crucial role of Muş in agricultural production, acknowledging the impactful studies conducted by the Faculty of Applied Sciences in shaping agricultural structures. He expressed expectations for further concrete work in animal husbandry and significant developments in plant production with the transition to irrigated agriculture.
Dr. Şerafettin Çakal delved into the history, present, and future of agriculture, emphasizing the impact of geography, culture, and R&D on societal development. He explained the evolution of agricultural processes from fertile crescents to smart farming, discussed global issues, climate change, food security, and the importance of biotechnology, nanotechnology, and information technology in meeting growing food demands.
The event, organized by Prof. Dr. Yaşar Karadağ, was attended by various dignitaries, officials, academicians, producers, and students. The program concluded with the presentation of certificates of appreciation to successful faculty members for their accepted national and international projects in 2023.
