Assoc. Prof. Dr. Serhat Aras Tuna, Faculty Member of the Department of History at Muş Alparslan University, Attended the Turkish Economic Congress 2023 in Izmir
On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the first Turkish Economic Congress held in 1923, the "Turkish Economic Congress 2023" was organized by the Turkish Historical Society in Izmir from July 19th to 20th, 2023.
The opening speeches of the congress, attended by over a hundred academics conducting research on various periods, especially Seljuk, Ottoman, and Republican history, were given by Dr. Serdar Çam, the Deputy Minister of Culture and Tourism, Acting Governor of Izmir, Hulusi Doğan, President of the Turkish Academy of Sciences (TÜBA), Prof. Dr. Muzaffer Şeker, and President of the Turkish Historical Society, Prof. Dr. Birol Çetin.
Among the papers presented on the history of economics and economic thought, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Serhat Aras Tuna, a faculty member of the Department of History at Muş Alparslan University, participated with a study titled "Budget Crisis in Ottoman Provincial Municipalities: Issues with Payment of Physician Salaries." Dr. Tuna discussed the operations of municipal councils, which were among the modernization instruments of the Tanzimat period, with a focus on doctors' working conditions in the health field."
