Our Rector Attended the Regional Development-Oriented Universities Meeting
Our Rector Prof. Dr. Fethi Ahmet Polat participated in the Regional Development-Oriented University Visit organized under the chairmanship of Chairman of the Council of Higher Education (YÖK), Prof. Dr.Erol Özvar.
The program, attended by the rectors of specialized universities and the relevant vice-rectors, was hosted by Kastamonu University. The opening of the program was attended by YÖK President Prof. Dr. Erol Özvar, Member of the Executive Board of YÖK Prof. Dr. Naci Gündoğan, Member of YÖK Prof. Dr. Hüseyin Karaman, President of the Agriculture and Rural Development Support Institution (TKDK), Dr. Muhammet Adak.
President of YÖK Prof. Dr. Erol Özvar said, "Individual visits and such group meetings do not only provide the opportunity to observe the problems of our higher education institutions first hand, but also enable us, as the Council of Higher Education, to express our expectations for the future from our universities on a healthier basis. In this way, we can set more stable and healthy targets regarding the path we have drawn and the steps to be taken."
Pointing out that 22 universities within the scope of the Regional Development-Oriented Mission Differentiation and Specialization Program constitute approximately 10 percent of the total number of universities, Özvar said, "The total face-to-face student number of our regional development-oriented universities is 45 percent of the total face-to-face student number of our 60 state universities established after 2006. i, the total number of faculty members is 39 percent of the total number of faculty members in our state universities established after 2006. Our regional development-oriented universities seem to have undertaken a significant burden in terms of education.".
Özvar, who wants regional development universities to give priority to postgraduate programs in the fields they specialize in, said, "I sincerely believe that our regional development universities will contribute more and more to the future of our country, taking into account both regional and national needs." said.
Rector Polat, who stated that the program is an important event in terms of seeing the current situation and reviewing the future expectations, said: “In these meetings held with the presence of our Honorable YÖK President and our esteemed YÖK members, we are consulting our latest situation as the rectors of pilot state universities, and we are discussing the ideas of our universities that have put forth different studies and projects. Our University, which has carried out important studies in the field of farming, will soon meet with Burdur Mehmet Akif Ersoy and Siirt Universities, which have been selected as pilot state universities in the close fields to our university. In this meeting, we will have the opportunity to introduce both our province and our own works to our guest rectors. We also know that our YÖK President will come to Muş at the specialization meetings that will continue. We will do our best for this visit of our professor and we will host him in the best way possible.”
The program ended with the "Program-wide General Evaluations Meeting" held in the afternoon.
