A total of 43 papers from various disciplines such as philosophy, sociology, psychology, communication, law, economics, business, labour economics, public administration, urban planning, environment, social policy, education, theology, basic sciences, engineering, architecture, planning, and health sciences were accepted for presentation at the symposium. Sessions in 11 different disciplines were held throughout the symposium that featured invited speakers including Dr. Tuğçe BAŞER, a faculty member at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, Dr. Özgün Alp Numanoğlu, a project engineer at Schnabel's Seattle Geotechnical Team, Prof. Dr. Kevin LaGrandeur, a faculty member at the New York Institute of Technology and Institute of Ethics for Emerging Technologies, and Prof. Dr. Serap NAZLI, a faculty member at the Department of Guidance and Psychological Counseling, Faculty of Educational Sciences, Ankara University. The presentations delivered in Turkish and English ended after a question-and-answer part.
In a statement on the event, Prof. Çaydaş said, "After the recent major earthquake disaster in our country, we began working on how to cope with similar disasters and how to overcome them with the least damage, while we continue to heal our wounds as a nation. As a university, we have established a Centre for Crisis Management and Disaster Coordination to create a conscious society against disasters and be prepared for them. Since its establishment, our centre has been preparing for the work to be carried out before, during and after disasters. In addition to creating an action plan based on the disaster scenarios created taking into consideration the scientific studies conducted by our university, the centre has also prepared four scientific projects. We would like to thank our Rector, Prof. Dr. Fethi Ahmet Polat, who made this symposium possible in a short period of time. We also thank the Organising Committee, especially Assoc. Prof. Sedat Bozarı, for their hard work in the process, as well as our invited speakers and all participants for their contributions."
